Last year due to a Freedom Of Information Act request it was discovered that in 2015, 2016 & 2017, Mint State Silver Eagle's were not only struck at the West Point Mint like previous years.
Both the San Francisco and Philadelphia Mint's assisted with production but in very limited numbers. According to the Mint's announcement on March 20, 2017, less than 11% of 2017 Silver Eagles were minted in Philadelphia. This 2017 (P) Silver Eagle issue was verified by PCGS to be struck at the Philadelphia Mint and has been certified as a perfect MS70 with a First Strike designation!!In addition it has been hand signed by the 12th U. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti. As a result of PCGS's strict requirements for First Strike eligibility and the delayed announcement of the existence of these coins far after the First Strike deadline, very few coins can be proven to be First Strike eligible. Therefore, the population of these coins is sure to remain low! This is a tremendous opportunity to add this low-mintage, low pop.
