Certain slab have PVC which reacts with the ammonia used by the US mint or its suppliers in the annealing process. The annealing process is the heating and softening of the blank planchetts before striking in an ammonia acid bath. When the PVC gas builds up in the slab, it reacts with the ammonia which creates the spots on the coin. MAC will only sticker coins that are in a holder which will not build up PVC gas.
This is why MAC stickered coins are a MUST for any silver eagle collector or dealer. The coin is encased in a removable clear acid-free archival bag to protect the slab (not pictured).
